Super Slug!

We get some pretty unusual critters in our back yard, but this one takes the prize for grossest!!  At first hubby thought it might be a snake crawling up our pine tree, but then realized it was the world's longest slug!
As disgusting as it was, I couldn't help taking a picture of it.  Hard to tell from the photos, but it was about 8-10 inches long.  Seriously slimy and gross!!!

Kitchen cupboard organization-Part 1

The quest has begun to get every cupboard in my kitchen and laundry room completely organized, once and for all. I got this section cleaned out and re-stocked last weekend, and plan to tackle one a week till I'm all done. Or maybe one a month...

Oops!

Hubby and I got a lot of yard work done this weekend and finally finished up everything on a long-needed reno of our front yard.  It's so nice to sit back and see the finished product, and makes it worth all of the sore muscles, itchy eyes and ruined manicure!

However, while I was trimming some bushes this morning, I suddenly felt something on my leg.  Thinking it was a twig, I tried to just brush it away but it was still there.  Then I actually looked and there were about a hundred tiny ants crawling all over my foot & making their way up to my knee.  *GROSS*  Turns out I was standing right on top of a huge ant bed!!
The good news.....at least it wasn't a snake.

Note to self:
Always look - before stepping - in the bushes.
(It's particularly good to remember this when wearing flip-flops.)

Done with the drapes

We decided to put up some outdoor curtains on our pergola, to block out the heat of the west-setting sun. After searching online, the cost for ready-made was sky high, so I proceeded to make them myself. I've never attempted something like this before but I figured that with it being just a lot of straight seams, how hard could it be?? Well, it definitely wasn't rocket science, but it sure was a lot of fabric to handle! It turned out to be much more time consuming than I had planned, and involved a lot of trips up and down the stairs to the ironing board. But they turned out fine and they do the job perfectly. I amused myself by watching old movies while I was stitching away...

Morning joe

Enjoyed a cup o' joe and cool air on the patio early this morning.

Cute little bird feeder

This is the pretty bird feeder hanging in the trees in our back yard. Hailey made it for us for Easter!

Flowers.....finally!

The sun is shining this morning and I'm lovin the daffodils, finally in bloom. They're such pretty, happy little flowers and so nice to see in the yard after all *snow* and gloom of the last month!!

Still Some Snow

There's still a small amount of snow in the backyard, but soon it will be nothing but a distant memory.
Within a few weeks, the grass will turn green and leaves will sprout on all the trees, the sun will be shining and birds will be singing!!!

Down with the Brown

Time to move the winter decor downstairs into storage and bring in some lighter colors for spring. So bye-bye pretty pine cone candles, until next winter. Colleen gave me these for Christmas a few years ago.

Love them!!

Love these gorgeous colors!

It feels good just having a few flowers around the house.

In desperation, I've resorted to using fake!

What a difference a day makes

Today the sun is shinging and the snow is melting! Yay!!
We can see across the valley once again!
                                         We have blue skies today!
We can see some grass for the 1st time in months!
It may be smashed and brown, but it is showing *signs of life*!

A dismal, dreary, day

Of course yesterday was an absolutely gorgeous, warm, day.
(While I went to work, hubby went skiing.  Hmmm...what up with that?)
So I was hoping that we'd have the same sunny blue skies today.  But instead, we had a pretty bleak Saturday  :(
A complete whiteout for most of the day

Spring cannot get here soon enough!

For lunch I made us some yummy curried rice and shrimp, and hot orange spice tea...good for warming body and soul.
